Lt. Col. Paul Rowe has retired from the U.S. Civil Air Patrol with his official ceremony taking place on the evening of September 29, 2009 at the headquarters of Palwaukee Composite Squadron.

Lt. Col. Rowe joined CAP in April 1979 as a cadet with the Fox Valley Composite Squadron where his father was also a member. He recalls enjoying drill ceremonies as well as glider/power encampments. In fact, he was a glider pilot before he could drive thanks to CAP.

After High School he served in the US Army Airborne Infantry from 1984-1988. Upon completion of this duty, he returned to Illinois and rejoined CAP serving as Group 1 Deputy Director for Cadets. He then transferred to Illinois Wing Headquarters serving in various positions including Director for Senior Programs and Deputy Director for Operations.

He returned to active military duty in 1995; this time with service in U.S. Naval Intelligence. He also remained active in CAP assisting the Whitby Island Naval Air Station Squadron both in Emergency Services and with the Cadet Program.

Upon completing his stint in the Navy, Lt. Col. Rowe served as Deputy Chief of Staff For Aerospace Education at CAP Great Lakes Region HQ in 1999-2001. He then became inactive in CAP for the next 6 years.

Lt. Col. Rowe then returned to CAP active service in 2007 serving as Communications Officer for Palwaukee Composite Squadron.

Lt. Col. Rowe recalls the following events as major highlights of his CAP career:

  1. Presenting Governor Jim Edgar with aerial footage of Illinois dams.
  2. Participation in a High Bird mission during the Mississippi River flooding of 1993.
  3. Logging some 300 hours flying counter drug missions for the Kentucky CAP Wing in 1993-1994.

We congratulate Lt. Col. Rowe for his many years of CAP service and wish him much success in his future endeavors.
