Major Williams welcomes the Staff

The staff of Spring Encampment 2011 held their Required Staff Training (RST) on 05 March, at Naval Station Great Lakes, IL. The day long training session was hosted by Illinois Wing Group 22 HQ at the facility shared with Lake County Composite Squadron.

Attending were 48 members of the staff, which represented 19 units drawn from Illinois, Indiana, and Iowa Wings. The day’s training lasted 8 hours, and consisted of presentations in Staff Pre-Requisites, Hazing Issues, TAC Officer Responsibilities, Correct Uniform Wear, Customs & Courtesies, and more. Additionally, there were multiple ‘break-out’ sessions for both cadets and seniors

This year’s activity will mark the 20th Year for ILWG Spring Encampment, and the 10th year for its Commander, Major Robert Williams. I’m very proud of the record turnout for this activity, especially given the anniversary nature of both the Encampment and my tenure as Commander. With the addition of a TLC course offered this year, this should be one of the most successful and rewarding Spring Encampments we’ve had in some time". This year’s graduation ceremony will be somewhat bittersweet for him as well, as attendees will also see the Group 22 Change of Command.

Executive Officer of the Encampment, Major Brian Pokuta, offered this thought on this year’s Staff, “It’s great to see the dedication of the staff giving up their free time for a full day of training. With registrants from 5 Wings, it’s this professional attitude that continues to make this activity the success it enjoys”.

This year’s Encampment runs from 8-10 April and 15-17 April. Details can be found on the Encampment website, http://encampment.group22.net/.
